This Cowboy Pastor Got a New Ride!
There’s a cowboy church named Bethel Assembly in a small Texas town called Anson that has ignited a community. The pastor that is leading that charge is named Cody Cochran.
Three years ago I stepped into his office while itinerating and was immediately intimidated. Why? He was a cowboy and I was a triathlete. Wranglers and boots and spandex and running shoes. Need I say more?
Fast forward to the present and a month ago I got to go out and see Cody again and do a ride with him. Not on a horse, but on a bicycle. There’s no longer an intimidation with him but an admiration. He loves the Lord beyond words can express and I absolutely love his heart, friendship, and new found brotherhood.
Cody has transformed physically and I got to ask him a few questions and wanted to share them with you.
Why did you decide to make a change?
I just didn’t feel good. I was tired all of the time. I was having a few dizzy spells. I prayed and asked God about it. The Lord spoke to me and told me that He had many great plans for me. Plans to raise up sons and daughters for the Kingdom and for rural America.
He told me that if I didn’t take care of my temple that I wouldn’t live long enough to see those plans come to pass. That was great motivation.
What have you lost?
I have lost around 30 pounds.
What have you gained?
I have gained tons of energy.
Who have you influenced? How has it impacted your church/staff?
It has been amazing to see the people around me and in our church that have jumped on board to get healthy. I would say that every one of our staff are doing some kind of exercise and many of our congregation. Although, I have not gotten any cowboys, ranchers, or farmers in spandex just yet.
Why should a pastor get involved with Fit Pastors?
Fit Pastors is a great way to gain some accountability and a support group. I am certainly thankful to RVP and Mike Harper for helping me get started on a road to healthy living and eating.
